Virasana Cycle: Day 32
here I am. Day 32. Still practicing the virasana cycle.
Some days I open up with Supta Virasana. Some days I settle forward with lots of support (like the pic above). And some days I move through all the phases of the cycle: back, forward, and upright in the middle.
But y'all, the first 7 days were rough.
I thought beginner's motivation would sweep me away, that the first week would be easy, full of shiny newness & excitement.
I was so wrong.
So much resistance crept in immediately.
One night, already in bed, no virasana. So what'd I do? Adho Mukha Virasana (child's pose) right then and there. #onePoseIsAPractice
Some days, all I did was sit in Virasana for a minute. #onePoseIsStillAPractice
The thing about practice is that we gotta start somewhere. And if we just keep showing up, even for one pose, one minute per day, our experience starts to shift over time.
As my resistance began to wane, creativity & curiosity began to grow.
Day 30 inspiration came from Geeta Iyengar's demo in Yoga: A Gem for Women.

Here, she has the legs in the classic seated virasana position, and then comes forward.
Often, we do this pose with knees wide, big toes touch.
But on that day, and with lots of support (see my pic above), this Gem variation brought a widening & spaciousness to my back, a settling & softness to my abdomen, and a quieting to my mind.
What will the next 30 days (and beyond) bring?
Let's find out. #keepPracticing
