"It is your practice that brings the secrets to you..."
"It is your practice that brings the secrets to you. No teacher can give you the secrets."
-Dr. Geeta S. Iyengar
For many years, this quote lived at the bottom of all my newsletters. I still think of it often. I searched my inbox for it, and this note from last year about being my own best teacher appeared. I share it here as a reminder that your practice holds answers for you.
Much love

PS. AND I have something new coming soon... Keep practicing šš±š
Why go to class and learn from teachers if I'm my own best teacher?
I grapple with this question a lot, because at first glance it seems like a paradox. Why learn from another if your body already has the answers, holds guidance that's just for you?
This week, I was in class with my teacher, and I felt an answer rise from within...
My teacher surprises me. She gets me out of my habits, asks me to try new things and return to old things (that I prefer to skip in my own practice.)
And even as I learned from another, I did not abandon myself.
Some poses I do the variations, because of my current state of being. Some poses I stay working on stage 1, even as others move forward. Some poses I surprise myself at what emerges, different than my mind's limited expectations.
AND, class is fun! I love being surprised by what she connects and where the sequence is heading. And getting a glimpse of possible futures, even though I don't find myself there yet.
It is my dear hope that you experience class as a door opening to beautiful possibilities.
I may be my own best teacher, but it sure is a gift to walk this path with others.
