BOTH one step at a time AND cycles & spirals
learning is both linear/progressive and cyclical/spiral
When we learn over a long period of time, we progressively move from beginning poses & actions to more challenging poses & subtler actions.
When we learn math,
we learn adding + multiplication before
functions + graphing before
calculus.
There is a certain amount of linear learning that takes place as we move forward one pose, one action, one step at a time.
AND
every time we return to so called beginning poses and beginning actions, a new experience awaits us. We are no longer the same as our first (or even last) encounter with the pose. We have changed.
New and challenging-to-us poses hold the potential to grow our capacity for change and expansion.
Beginning and vintage-to-us poses hold the potential to go deeply inward, explore subtleties and our breath, grow our capacity for focus and stillness.
Both linear and cyclical learning have gems waiting for us. What a gift to expand our potential & return to ourselves again and again.
